Abstract: |
The evaluation was carried out in response to a planning application for the construction of eight new suites at Wateredge Inn. The rapid documentary assessment showed that the development lay within a field adjacent to what was then Wateredge House, a late 18th century building which became Wateredge Inn. Subsequent expansion and alterations during the 20th century encroached upon the eastern portion and became part of the grounds of the hotel. Within both trenches the archaeological evaluation recorded undisturbed layers rich in organic material which had accumulated on the foreshore of Lake Windermere. In trench two the remains of a small wooden post were recovered sealed by the foreshore deposits. The wood was sent to be radiocarbon dated. [Au(adp)] |
