Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluation of proposals to develop an area of land as an housing development and parkland, comprised the excavation of 30 machine cut trenches following a geophysical survey. An assemblage of flints, mostly Neolithic but including one Late Mesolithic microlith was found in the eastern part of the site. In the south-east of the site an area of Late Bronze Age activity was identified, comprising a slightly curved ditch with post-holes aligned along one side, with a possible continuation further to the west. A series of postholes and pits representing settlement activity lay adjacent to this ditch. The central and eastern area of the site contained a series of undated linear ditches and occasional pits and postholes of possibly prehistoric date. Modern features including land drains were also recorded. [Au(abr)] |
