Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of the proposed site of a housing development, part of which was overlain by medieval ridge and furrow, was undertaken. Earthworks at the site which were thought to represent part of the medieval village of Crick were examined in a walkover survey, and a geophysical survey was carried out. The pattern of anomalies revealed by the latter suggested greater complexity below ground than was visible on the surface. Earthworks also existed to the south and west, and a scatter of Roman pottery had been recorded nearby. It was concluded that the earthworks should ideally be preserved in situ, and that some of the geophysical anomalies should be subjected to an evaluation. [AIP] |
