Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a pond identified that prehistoric finds and sites recorded in the surrounding area were varied, and included Mesolithic implements, a Neolithic discoidal knife, Middle Bronze Age cremations, and a pit, a gully and pottery of Iron Age date. A possible Romano-British settlement site lay to the west, and the line of Roman Stane Street passed c. 1km to the east. Medieval pottery had also been found in the area. It was concluded that the site had a good archaeological potential, and that trial trenching should be carried out prior to the commencement of development. [Au(adp)] |
