Abstract:
Desk-based assessment identified that a site proposed for redevelopment lay within the precincts of the medieval priory of St James and may have included part of the pre-dissolution priory church. The non-parochial part of the church was destroyed by the Kings commissioners in 1541 and by 1792 the site had been infilled with tenement buildings. The site at the time of the assessment was occupied by a 1960's office block and associated area of car parking. [Auth adap]
