Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment concluded that a condition relating to archaeology was likely to be imposed largely because of the site's location within the centre of Leatherhead. The examination of cartographic evidence in this assessment, however, suggested that the likelihood of identifying features or retrieving material relating to the urban development of the town was low. Existing evidence relating to prehistoric or Roman activity in close proximity of the site was scarce and the potential of retrieving evidence on the present site, which had already undergone a certain degree of development, was relatively unlikely. However, it was possible that the absence of deposits was due to a lack of archaeological survey during the earlier phases of development. In this case the archaeological potential could be described as uncertain. [Au(adp)] |
