Abstract: |
A desk based assessment of Stotts Road playing field, Walkergate was undertaken prior to development. The line of Hadrian's Wall runs nearby and it was considered a possibility that Roman remains might exist on the site. The report examined the evidence for the line of the Wall, from both antiquarian accounts and a small amount of limited excavation undertaken in the past. It also studied the development history of the site up to the present day. Finally an assessment was made of the likely archaeological potential of the study area, and recommendations were made concerning a mitigation strategy for the archaeology of the site. [Au(adp)] |
