Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed construction of new houses, office accommodation and garages, together with creation of a new access road and services across the site. The immediate area of the site appeared undeveloped on the earliest map of 1723, but had apparently been developed by 1768. It was likely that the site lay beyond the settled area of medieval Bletchingly. It was considered that a scatter of finds from occupation in the town may have found its way outwards from this location, but substantial evidence for medieval activity may have been unlikely.
