Abstract: |
The site lay in an area of exceptional archaeological potential immediately north of Fishbourne Roman Palace. While it was unlikely that the palace complex itself continued in this direction, it was possible that significant archaeological remains may be present, and if so, these may be of national importance. Further information would certainly be required on the presence or absence of such remains before any planning application could be determined. However, it was unlikely that the entire proposal area would be of such importance as to be Scheduled and early information on the nature of any archaeology would permit mitigation via sympathetic design.
