Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment identified that there were two previously known sites of archaeological significance within the area proposed for the construction of a new classroom block These comprised a Roman pottery, found on the site during the construction of the school in 1909 with the remains of a pebble surface possibly running alongside Ermine Street, and two undefined pits or burial features observed during the excavation of a replacement watermain trench under the north side of Denmark Road. It was also shown that the study area had remained outside the developing city of Gloucester, the land being utilised for agricultural and horticultural purposes until the construction of the school in 1909.
