Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken on land proposed for a new housing estate. The significant feature on the site was a supposed Civil War earthwork afforded national significance by its inclusion in the Designated Register of battlefield sites; the Battle of Newburn Ford was fought here in 1640. Little else of archaeological value was recognised. The development would have a profound impact upon the setting of the battlefield as defined by English Heritage. Mitigation proposals were put forward. [AIP] |
