Abstract:
The excavation revealed evidence of earlier prehistoric, Iron Age and medieval date, in the form of scattered flintwork, pits, post holes, ditches/ gullies, a stone surface and possible building features. The Iron Age evidence seems to represent the remains of fields and is in part directly related to similar features uncovered during the adjacent Area 7 Brisley Farm excavation. The next phase of activity occurs in the 13th century with fields, enclosures and possible occupation evidence. The activity intensified during the 14th century where there was good evidence of domestic occupation; stone yards, an enclosure and possible building features. Apart from some limited post-medieval remains and a World War II bomb crater, there was no further archaeological activity identified. [Au(abr)]
