Abstract: |
The proposal site was shown to be formerly part of the lands attached to St Bartholomew's Hospital, established in the 13th century and closed in the 16th century with the Grammar School taking over its site, buildings, and lands. Sugar refining, tobacco clay pipe manufacturing, tobacco and snuff manufacture and warehousing activites occupied the site in the 18th and 19th centuries. A Unitarian Chapel with associated ancillary rooms was also located within the proposal area. The chapel opened in 1791 and was closed in 1986. [AIP] |
