Abstract: |
Evaluation was undertaken on land at Powell's School, in an area close to the Roman Ermin Street and to the north-west of the Roman Gloucester Gate. The evaluation established the presence of an early alluvial channel, possibly an earlier course of the Daglingworth Brook associated with later Roman infilling deposits, possibly representing some form of riverine control contemporary with the erection of the Roman town defences in the 1st- or early 2nd century AD. Medieval activity comprised a pit and ditch, probably relating to documented settlement in the area. Post-medieval features in the form of pits, structural foundations and a cess-pit were also located. [Au] |
