Abstract: |
An excavation was carried out at the site after a previous evaluation identified medieval deposits. The site had appeared to have undergone little or no development until 1887, however, this excavation uncovered a medieval base stratigraphy. Much of the medieval and post-medieval archaeology had been removed when the site was levelled for use as a car park, however, a series of occupation floors, a hearth, several walls, a series of refuse pits, a cess pit and evidence of industrial working were recorded. An artefact assemblage that was considered small for an urban domestic site was nonetheless regarded as rich in medieval and post-medieval ceramics. [Au(abr)] |
