Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken in response to a condition upon planning permission for the construction of a car showroom and parking area across the site. No archaeological material had been found specifically from the site, and there were few finds (other than post-medieval mills) from the general vicinity. This may in part have been due to a lack of development, and/or a lack of archaeological survey, rather than an absence of deposits. Early cartographic evidence revealed that the site was undeveloped until the mid-20th century. Prior to this time it was open land on the periphery of the Sickle Mill site, but not clearly associated with that site. [Au(adp)] |
