Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during various groundworks for the rebuilding of the former Stonegate Arcade. It was found that much of the development area had been disturbed by construction activity of the late 20th century. In the north-east part of the site a number of probable post-medieval dump and build-up deposits were recorded and at the extreme north-east a possible clay floor overlain by a burnt deposit was noted. This was interpreted as a post-medieval workshop. A nearby well was thought to indicate an open area. [Au(abr)] |
