Abstract: |
A significant amount of archaeological material had been recovered from the surrounding area. The archaeology of the area mainly refered to sites or finds from the prehistoric or Roman periods. This evidence pointed to the prehistoric and Roman periods as having the highest potential. The situation for the Saxon period was less clear, but the settlement pattern for the medieval and post-medieval periods was well attested, and it seemed relatively unlikely that major unknown sites of those dates lay within the borrow pit areas.
