Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site. A much-altered 15th century house, which may have been moated and which was associated with a 16th-17th century barn, lay on the site. Surviving ponds were thought to have been part of the moat, although cartographic evidence suggested otherwise. Nothing of archaeological significance was observed during the evaluation. A number of locations intended for evaluation proved to be inaccessible, and were therefore covered during a short watching brief. A cess-pit, well or soakaway, probably of Victorian date, was observed. It was concluded that the ponds on the western part of the site did not appear to have been part of a moat. [AIP] |
