Abstract: |
Watching briefs were carried out during topsoil stripping at a gravel extraction site between 1990 and 1998, following the excavation in 1989 of a ditched ringwork, identified from an aerial photograph. The feature was found to have been of Neolithic date, and was almost certainly a henge-type monument. Associated features had included a possible avenue consisting of 52 pits in two parallel rows. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were observed within the areas examined in 1990-93. Unstratified struck flints were recovered in 1994 and in 1995, but in 1996 and 1998, no archaeological features or artefacts were found. [AIP] |
