Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in advance of the construction of two town houses on the site. The site lay within the historic core of the town of Hertford, adjacent to the River Lea, but probably outside the limits of the medieval town. The archaeological monitoring and recording revealed no archaeological features or finds to be present. The site seemed to have been reclaimed from land on the margins of the river at a late date (probably in the 19th century). Priory Street was a creation of the mid-19th century, when the former Priory Estate was sold off. [Au(abr)] |
