Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the construction of a housing estate at the former site of a school, which lay within a Local Area of Archaeological Importance. Prehistoric artefacts had been found at four sites in the surrounding area, and it was considered likely that Hill Lane had existed since at least the late Saxon period. During the watching brief, several undated features which were likely to have been associated with agricultural use of the land and could have been of a date as late as the 1920s were recorded. Four unstratified flint nodules were retained, of which two showed possible traces of flaking. However, they were all most likely to have been fractured by natural processes. [AIP] |
