Abstract: |
<summary>The footings of towers on the northern town wall were investigated at Tower A and the Polymond Tower where above-ground cracking suggested that they might need to be underpinned. The excavated trench at Tower A revealed the footings to be sound, and deeper and more substantial than expected. In the two trenches at Polymond Tower the footings were found to be shallow and to butt the town wall. These investigations enabled a detailed account of the sequence for the construction of the wall to be established and all of these features were probably in place by about 1450 AD. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} SOU 175 (Southampton City Council, Heritage Management investigation identification no) |
