Abstract: |
The evaluation consisted of four trenches totalling 80m in length each 2m wide. Three trenches revealed evidence of relatively modern truncation across the site, and one trench revealed a depth of modern dumped deposits overlying a localised colluvial deposit. This modern activity probably derived from the construction of adjacent factory buildings to the west and railway line immediately east which bounded this side of the site. No evidence for any archaeological features was present in any of the trenches excavated, with only a small quantity of prehistoric pottery and worked flint recovered from a colluvial deposit encountered in Trench 1.
