Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was carried out on the site, which fell within an area of generally low archaeological potential for the prehistoric and Roman period but had an increased potential for the discovery of medieval evidence. The early cartographic evidence revealed that the site lay within a prominent position within the village and was likely to have been associated with the church from its earliest foundation. The site had a total area of c.0.32ha, although the area to be affected by the new development proposals covered an area of c.0.15ha, the majority of this land appeared to have escaped development to an extent where any archaeological evidence that may have existed had been destroyed.
