Abstract: |
A watching brief undertaken on the excavation of four trenches for the installation of gas pipeline. The area was badly truncated by previously laid amenity services. Deposits relating to the demolition of 19th century buildings that are known to have occupied the area were found. A build up of friable dark grey-brown clay silts could be associated with the ornamental gardens shown here in 1850 or overspill from the graveyard of the now demolished St Maurice's Church.
