Abstract: |
A survey was undertaken on an unusual structure identified during repairs to field boundaries. The structure appears to predate the present field structure but this interpretation is not conclusive. The structure is associated with a set of earthworks in the adjacent field which represent an earlier layout. The location of the structure between two fields suggests that it functioned as a temporary livestock pen or sheepfold. An access route below the structure via an underground passage may have served as a sheep creep, while restricting larger animals. [Au(abr)] |
