Abstract: |
Evaluation on a site of a proposed office development, at the western end of Courage's Brewery site, revealed that in areas where there were no recent basements, complex post-medieval deposits and structures survived. The Law Ditch culvert was intact and it was suggested that the course of the medieval Law Ditch survived below and alongside the later culvert. The remains of 14th century waterfront structures were well preserved below the basement floor of the Keg Store and between the pile bases of the present building. Alluvial silts and dumped material were found associated with the waterfront structures and these contained organic remains where waterlogged conditions existed. [AIP] |
