Abstract: |
Two trenches were excavated, one 25m. and the other 5m. long, each 1.52m. wide. Six archaeological features were recorded, four securely dated to the Roman period. A large east-west ditch, context 203, was orientated parallel with the original line of Roman Ermine Street. This probably formed the northern (rear) boundary ditch for properties along the northern side of the Roman road, within the settlement area. The other features were interpreted as further evidence of Roman occupation and activity on the site, further attested to by the large amount of Roman artefacts recorded during the evaluation.
