Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation and subsequent watching brief (between December 2003 and April 2004) were undertaken in advance of site redevelopment. Two evaluation trenches were excavated and a single service trench was observed and recorded during the watching brief. One of the evaluation trenches and the service trench observed during the watching brief only encountered modern deposits and features. The other evaluation trench additionally revealed a single, truncated pit. Pottery recovered from this pit indicated that it dated from the 12th or 13th century and it was probably a domestic refuse pit. Several sherds of early to mid Anglo-Saxon pottery were also recovered from this pit and indicated the likelihood of activity of this date in the vicinity. [Au(adp)] |
