Abstract: |
A programme of earthworks survey and trial trenching was undertaken across land between Broughton Road and Brittons Lane. a number of linear earthworks, areas of intentional ground levelling and the remains of possible quarrying were recorded. Initially three trial trenches were excavated with a combined area of 180 square metres. A further trench 5m by 5m was then opened. Ditches and a possible hollow way were located, as well as an isolated medieval pit, an area of irrregular cobbles and possible field drain. The earthwork survey in the Eastern field recorded a number of rather irregular earthworks, none of which were archaeological in origin. The landowner confirmed that most of the land disturbance was due to modern activity. [AIP] |
