Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken at the Moathouse, North Piddle, during demolition of a modern extension to the north of the half-timbered building, digging of foundation trenches for garages and a stable block, and dredging of the existing pond nearby. The half-timbered north face of the Moathouse was exposed, as was the stone foundation below the sill beam. No other evidence was found within the new foundation trenches for other structural remains. During the dredging of the pond the presence of dark, silty organic material suggested the position of part of the former moat.[AIP] |
