Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed redevelopment site within Neasden, which had originated as a medieval hamlet strung out along Neasden Lane. The proposal site had reputedly been occupied by a public house for about three hundred years. It lay on a road junction, a favourable position for earlier occupation. During the evaluation, the remains of a brick-built cellar with an associated wall foundation and culvert were discovered. These were likely to have represented a late 19th to early 20th century public house which had been moved and rebuilt on a different alignment on the same site in c. 1930. Residual pottery of 17th-18th century date indicated the earliest activity on site. [Au(adp)] |
