Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a proposed development site identified that several thousand Mesolithic flint flakes and implements had been found in an area to the south of the site, and that a Neolithic or Bronze Age double headed flint axe had been found further to the south. Roman coins and a Roman bowl had been found in the vicinity, whilst a 13th century finger ring, a possible post-medieval metal rod and a cast iron milestone had also been recorded. The proposal site appeared to have undergone a certain degree of disturbance in connection with the present buildings and structures; large-scale levelling had occurred over part of the site. It was concluded that although the site had a moderate to high archaeological potential, the likelihood of identifying surviving remains was low. It was recommended that no further work should be carried out. [AIP] |
