Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the archaeological potential of the site was relatively low. No archaeological material had been found specifically from the site, although this was likely to have been to a lack of archaeological survey as to an absence of deposits. Documentary and place name evidence revealed that Bookham was established by the time of the Domesday Survey, however, the present site lay outside of the bounds of the early village layout, and hence outside the Area of High Archaeological Potential defined by the County Archaeologist. The earliest cartographic evidence revealed that the site had remained undisturbed by development to the present day, utilised initially as arable land, and then later, as part of a garden plot and tennis court.
