Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation was undertaken on the site of a proposed resource centre for adults with learning difficulties. The site was previously occupied by garages. Although no complete structures survived due to horizontal truncation, masonry structures, which may have represented part of the farm belonging to at least one of the phases of the medieval moated site of Mockings Manor, were revealed. The masonry on the west side of the site appeared to be cut into the edge of a substantial ditch which had been partially backfilled. Final infilling of the ditch postdated the masonry and may even have occurred after the building went out of use, providing a possible surface to the west. There were also post-medieval structures on site and a 17th/18th century well on the site also contained a significant assemblage of pottery. [Au(adp)] |
