Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of proposed residential redevelopment of the site. On the eastern side of Trench 2, red brick cellar walls probably 18th to 19th century in date were constructed immediately above a wooden plank floor or surface, possibly a cellar floor. This lay above a thick layer of dark grey-black sandy clay with post-medieval pottery within it and large quantities of animal bone. Immediately below this were alluvial clays. Trench 3 contained a brick lined well in its north-east corner and two wooden stakes driven straight into the alluvial clay. No other archaeological features were observed. [Au(abr)] |
