Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundation trenches for a new toilet block. An opportunity was also taken to view a footing trench for a column to support the roof of a nearby covered market. The site lay within the medieval/post-medieval town of Bedworth, where several post-medieval sites, including silk-weavers' houses, a hat factory and almshouses, were known. No archaeological remains were observed at the site of the toilet block, although 19th century pottery was found within the column footing trench. It was concluded that the lack of medieval and early post-medieval remains observed was due to the 19th century development of the town. [AIP] |
