Abstract:
The desk-based assessment revealed the presence of prehistoric, Romano-British and later activity and occupation in the vicinity of the study area. A water powered mill was believed to have existed in the vicinity of the Longfords Mill by the 14th century. Architectural features from the demolished 17th century mill appeared to have been incorporated into an 18th century mill complex. Any below ground archaeological remains predating the extant 18th century and later mill complexes may, however, have been extensively punctured, truncated or entirely removed by later buildings and associated services and landscaping.
