Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of the proposed site of a rectory was undertaken. The site lay within an Area of High Archaeological Potential, based on the historic centre of Limpsfield. Artefacts recorded in the surrounding area included Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age flints, a Romano-British gold coin and a lead pilgrim's ampulla. A Grade I Listed medieval aisled hall lay within the village. It was concluded that the main focus of medieval activity in the area may have lain in the vicinity of the church, which lay opposite the site. An evaluation was deemed to be necessary. [AIP] |
