Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the site of a recently-demolished house, where a replacement dwelling was to be constructed. The proposed development was located within an area of prehistoric barrows; a service trench due to be excavated across a field to the north-west of the site was to pass close to a barrow which was a SAM. Three evaluation trenches were excavated in the vicinity of the former house site. A struck flint flake, possibly of Neolithic date, was recovered, but no archaeological features were revealed. Evaluation of the proposed line of the service trench revealed three possible features, including an irregular gully. No finds were recovered, and it was noted that the features may have been naturally occurring. [AIP] |
