Abstract: |
A second stage of evaluation was undertaken on the site proposed for the construction of a new primary school. The site appeared to have a very thin scatter of archaeological features, and there appeared not to have been much disturbance by post-medieval and modern farming and building. The centre of activity on the site appears to have been in the region of Trench 13 where a Bronze Age pit and post-holes were found during the previous evaluation, and a pit containing smaller pits and post-holes was found during this stage of work. This hypothesis may of course be proven wrong upon the beginning of groundworks for the school. The small pits and post-holes at the bottom of the pit appeared to be contemporary and suggested a structural and storage purpose, the pit found in Trench 6 of the previous evaluation may likewise have been functional rather than ritual as a result.
