Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out on preliminary work for a proposed fibre optic cable crossing the line of Hadrian's Wall in the village of Walbottle. Three small test pits were opened on the line of the proposed cable in order to determine the depth of make-up layers, and the positions of existing services. Two roughly squared sandstone blocks, apparently belonging to a single course of masonry, were seen in the trench closest to the line of Hadrian's Wall. These were aligned north-south, perpendicular to the line of the wall. No evidence was found that would indicate the date of this masonry. The other two trenches revealed little of archaeological significance. [Au(abr)] |
