Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken in response to a proposal to develop a site. The site lay just outside the line of the medieval town wall, midway between Plummer Tower and the site of Austin Tower. The projected course of the town wall ran north-south under the street immediately to the west of the site. The projected line of the wall ditch ran through the site. Although some disturbance could be assumed during the construction of the Central Motorway in the early 1970s the fact that prior to this the central part of the site was relatively undeveloped, suggested that the wall ditch may have been partially preserved. Further archaeological evaluation was recommended. [Au(adp)] |
