Abstract: |
<summary>An evaluation was undertaken by the Warwickshire Museum at Glebe Farm, Long Itchington, on the supposed site of a medieval village (Warwickshire County Sites and Monuments Record PR No WA1642). The site comprised 1.2ha of private gardens which had been proposed for a new housing development. Fieldwork began with an earthwork survey which succeeded in depicting low terraces to the north, and possible house platforms to the south of the present day farm buildings. Trial-trenches confirmed the existence of 11th-13th century timber-framed structures over rough rubble surfaces. These were similar to those excavated at Goltho and Barton Blount, but had not previously been recognised in Warwickshire. A small charcoal-filled pit adjacent to an inverted cremation urn may imply the existence of a Bronze Age cremation cemetery on the western side of the site - one of only three known in Warwickshire. {italon}Sec(21c){italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} WA1642 |
