Abstract: |
The evaluation successfully confirmed the survival of a late 18th/19th century channel and gullies, probably drainage channels relating to the willow cultivation industry. More significantly, the fieldwork supported the potential proposed by an earlier desk-based assessment that the southern area of the sewage treatment works had not suffered truncation after the late 18th century. It was felt not unreasonable to suppose, therefore, that the area had not experienced significant intrusive human activity before the late 18th century. However, no deposits or finds of archaeological significance were revealed and this area of the site could be regarded as having very low archaeological potential. [Au(adp)] |
