Abstract:		 An archaeological excavation was undertaken in the northern field at Charlton Court, a Grade II Listed property on the south slope of the Beult Valley. Excavation was targeted upon a stone structure identified during evaluation trenching the previous year and a watching brief was also undertaken. The excavation found a stone foundation for a boundary wall, and the remains of a stone-capped drain which had been fed from a property uphill of the site, in an area beyond the limit of excavation. The limited finds suggested a medieval date for the property boundary, which may have been a dry stone wall or similar field boundary. The owners of the site in the medieval period were undoubtably of high status, and this was the first definite evidence on site for buildings pre-dating the standing Charlton Court building.
