Abstract:
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed mineral extraction site, where Iron Age and Roman pottery and prehistoric flints had been found during an earlier fieldwalking survey. During the evaluation, Bronze Age pottery and flints were recovered. Iron Age features and later Iron Age or early Roman ditches and pits were observed. The possibility of a farmstead of this date having existed was speculated. A later rectangular stone structure with a mortar floor, ditches, pits and post holes was recorded; 4th century pottery and a 3rd-5th century coin indicated that occupation may have continued into the late Roman period. A small amount of medieval pottery was recovered. [AIP]
