Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundation trenches for a small building which lay within the Scheduled area surrounding the site of Oatlands Palace. A substantial wall was observed. Its location made it clear that it had formed part of a large brick culvert constructed for Henry VIII, to channel water which had formerly flowed in the moat. No evidence of the curved arch of the culvert had survived. An area of later stratigraphy which may have represented a surface or a tile hearth was also noted. [AIP] |
