Abstract: |
It was clear from the documentary and archaeological evidence examined that the proposed site lay in an area of high archaeological potential within the boundaries of the medieval and post-medieval town. A small excavation carried out prior to the construction of the rear of 31 Bell Street had revealed medieval deposits including structural remains and it was most likely that further deposits had survived elsewhere on the proposal. Some of the 19th century buildings on 27/27A Bell Street were deeply cellared and these areas would clearly have had no archaeological potential. It was unknown if parts of the cinema at 31 Bell Street also contained cellars.[Au(adp)] |
